Vince Zampella, renowned for co-creating the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has tragically died in a vehicle crash in California aged 55.

Zampella's death was announced by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The renowned video game developer lost his life when his vehicle was involved in a crash and caught fire on a highway in Los Angeles on this past Sunday, according to.

"We are facing a heartbreaking loss, and our hearts are with Vince's loved ones, his family, and the countless individuals inspired by his legacy," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts stated.
