Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Increase Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals cannot be real Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs conceded a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight at home loss of the year.
But the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' second score when the keeper lost possession far outside his box.
The goalkeeper came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the sideline.
But, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italy international turned and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
King passed the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six metres.
Seconds afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Tottenham supporters jeered him.
The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.
One of those booing episodes truly angered the manager.
"I heard a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"[They] cannot be true Spurs supporters that act that way. Alright booing after the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting each other, we are with one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute lead before Wilson's strike – with Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an improved second period performance.
Former top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the next goal was "completely preventable".
"I certainly appreciate the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I am aware the part Vicario is playing. He's a excellent squad member, he is a true figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your actions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what turned out to be the winning score."
'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game
Italy national team Vicario is in his third campaign with Spurs.
The 29-year-old stated following the game that he had to take the criticism.
"The second goal was a mistake of mine, I accept responsibility for that," he said.
"My aim was to kick the ball far and I just hit the ball in a bad way. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "We cannot be affected by the situation in the crowd. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It is on the team to remain more calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in calmness and calmness to overturn results. This match is a poor loss and it is tough to accept."
'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an simple goal for Harry Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second longest-range Premier League score of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three yard strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly also occurred on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.
10 moments passed between Vicario coming out of his box and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds following the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the box for a long time," he said.
"It amazed me not one of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them defended the goal, my interest sparked somewhat.
"Udogie fell too, which gave me a little extra time. Then it was all about attempting to make the correct contact and get it towards goal. I had a good feeling, the moment it came off my foot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Poor Run, All Appears to Work Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank
Although the keeper's error dominated headlines, this was an all-round bad day for Spurs to extend their home struggles.
This was their 10th at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and two thousand and three.
The side still have home fixtures against Frank's old side the Bees and champions Liverpool to come prior to the close of the season.
Only one of those wins have occurred since the manager took over from his predecessor in the summer.
"If you are down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated the boss.
"During in a bad spell, everything appears to go against you too – the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a error from Vic.
"This result puts us in a position where we have lost an additional game. Every game has a single narrative, today we lost in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to keep working. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully something we can utilize to develop."
Spurs have been defeated in 4 consecutive at home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are averaging 9.5 attempts and 3.2 shots on target per match in the division – their poorest rates on file in a single campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He must accept the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He has accepted a prestigious job at a major team with massive anticipation. There is scrutiny and duty that comes with that.
"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
