The Showrunner Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.
Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would become a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”
Now that Season 1 of the hit series reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—the creative team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.
Regarding the Overwhelming Fan Response
One could easily to get swayed by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”
Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“We don't try to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”
“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.
The Big Question: Will the showrunner Know the Finale of Pluribus?
So if the creative staff aren’t being guided by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.
“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.
“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”
Of course, why mess with the iconic TV endings?
“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
