The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating future games, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a young woman containing multiple personalities inside her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her exist four distinct souls, each with their own fears and drives. These souls can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips show the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that concept — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The core mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will as you play. During exploration, each soul's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl in succession. When the soul shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their necks are. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four personas claims that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration suggests. "The last one standing might be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
