Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Leading Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has joined the Championship side just seven months after leading insulting taunts directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a contract joining the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's seven-year spell at Elland Road was ended amicably this past summer.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting insulting songs regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s success festivities in April. Currently, the former England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to lift his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Previous History Between the Striker & Wilder
The pair had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
Everything seems has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to revive his playing days.
The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and take it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Struggles
The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Boro player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
