Outrage as Beloved South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation battling persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old presenter was accosted by three individuals, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.
The purpose of the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested have been made, as per the official statement.
How It Happened
Authorities said that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a building near the city center landmark.
He had spent several hours at the property overseeing the setup of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, it was reported.
"It is alleged the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," authorities confirmed.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what appeared to be a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the assault.
Key evidence, like spent shells, were found at the crime scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.
"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the shooting, and police have been attempting to locate them to establish their location," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to process his death.
"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were willing to tackle. This is a devastating blow."
She appealed to the community to avoid sharing disturbing footage from the incident, explaining this was an incredibly difficult time, particularly for Stock's young family.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that was broadcast on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.
In addition to his role as a presenter, Stock was engaged in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including security provision, offering high-level security services and managing safety for high-profile events across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in property management and participated in property reclaimations.

His death has caused national trauma and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his followers, the government and various organizations.
A cabinet official remarked he was angry and saddened by Stock's untimely death.
"He was forthright without fear or favour. He even challenged me and my actions as a public official. He was a shining model of who we ought to be," the minister added.
A political leader commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director noted that "DJ Warras was more than just a TV personality. He was a talented storyteller, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a kind-hearted individual who brought excitement and dynamism to every performance. His dedication to creativity left an lasting impression."
In a release, the network he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, warmth and sharp wit, adding that his influence "will endure".
