Audiences are thrilled for the horror series Welcome to Derry, which is garnering praise and weaving in references from other Stephen King works. Just one day after launch, the network has revealed that the next chapter will debut sooner than expected, released fittingly for October 31st.

Early Release Details

Beginning on Halloween night at 3 a.m. EST, episode two of Welcome to Derry will launch on HBO Max, prior to its linear broadcast. Future chapters of the eight-episode season will continue to air on Sunday nights on both HBO and its streaming arm, culminating in the final episode on the 14th of December.

Series Overview

Set in the Derry mythology, Welcome to Derry is inspired by the original story while enlarging the universe brought to life by director Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. It Chapter One centered on kids and teens facing supernatural evils, so it’s fitting that this show continues that tradition. Nevertheless, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry demonstrates it aimed to escalate the fear, providing even more intense scares than the movies and establishing a brutal tone for the rest of the season.

Story World and Concepts

Located in the early '60s, the series introduces a different group of parents and youngsters inhabiting a seemingly idyllic town concealing a sinister core. The town functions through a brutal, periodic loop—characterized by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a evil entity returns once every three decades. Although Welcome to Derry might sound like it skews too close to the movies initially, what sets apart the streaming show is its two-sided viewpoint—narrated via the perspectives of kids and grown-ups concurrently. The kids are particularly vulnerable to the entity's fear, but older characters aren’t spared dealing with their personal demons born from the town's ingrained prejudice and covert otherworldly powers.
