My client shares that last night, they poured themself "a single serving" to relax post a long day. A single drink transformed into a second, followed by even more. It's a pattern they've grown used to; an unspoken custom that helps the person "switch off" away from the overwhelming thoughts that overwhelm their consciousness when the day finally slows down.

Increasing Phenomenon: Using Drinks to Manage Worry

This story represents what I have been observing more and more often among clients. Being a therapist, I have noticed a significant development: a growing number of people who using substances to manage their stress.

Data reveals that approximately over a third of individuals who drank beverages reported doing so to relieve stress and a substantial percentage to manage anxiety.

Acknowledging Contemporary Anxiety Factors

We exist in a period of known as worldwide anxiety factors. Rarely have we been so persistently made aware of crisis, tensions and turmoil. Even when we disconnect technology, the concerns persist of financial strain, employment uncertainty, ecological anxiety and psychological weariness that results from experiencing so powerless.

For many, alcohol at the end of the day transforms into a quiet respite. Yet while alcohol might appear to offer short-term comfort, it might worsen anxiety with continued use, affecting sleep, amplifying physiological pressure and weakening psychological fortitude.
