Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
